Curious Cat Goes to: BOHOL! (Part 3 of 3)

And the Curious Cat is blogging despite the bad weather. Perfect weather for a nap, though. Hehe. :D

In my last two posts, we've been to several places. We visited the Blood Compact monument then proceeded to the Baclayon Church. We dined at the Rio Verde Floating Restaurant and connected with nature at the Butterfly Museum, the Man-Made Forest, Choocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary. And lastly, there was the "death-defying" experience at the Hanging Bridge (lol). You can read about it here and here.

For the last installment of the Bohol vacation, I share with you our gastronomic experience at the Bohol Bee Farm. The mere awesomeness of the place merits a special mention in the Curious Cat's journal. Wheeee, talking about food always leaves my eyes twinkling like stars. Haha! Let's go!

Bohol Bee Farm

The Bohol Bee Farm is a vacation place on its own with its accommodations, dolphin and whale watching tour, organic farming activities and a bunch of other things to keep you busy. The bee farm closes at around 5:30 (or 6?) pm so we weren't able to see it. :( We just decided to have dinner there and shop at their organic store.

My inner shopaholic instantly connected with their organic store. I found a variety of food stuffs inside (jams, corn coffee, tableya, sweets, and of course the famous malunggay ice cream!) as well as handicrafts (native bags, keychains, runners, coasters, bangles, etc) and beauty products (organic too!). I wanted to buy so much stuff! Haha. But of course I restrained myself, thinking that I have to be a responsible adult and spend wisely (sometimes I get to stick with that and sometimes, well, I don't, heehee).

Let me start my restaurant rave with its perfect ambiance. They use dim lights, though, so it's hard to get nice photos without flash. My camera's flash is a little too intrusive and I certainly didn't want to ruin the ambiance hence the low quality of my food photos. Heehee. The place has nice draping on the ceiling and even the runners are very nice.

The restaurant has a wide area and it can hold large groups. Perfect for birthday celebrations! At the same time, they also have small tables perfect for date nights. <3

The highlight of the night was the gastronomic dinner that we had. The food was more than enough for us and a thousand in one tastes dizzied up my tastebuds. Mmmmm, a favorite memory indeed. Hehe.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="499"] I believe that a restaurant's menu is a reflection of how closely the management pays attention to the little details. And the Farm's menu doesn't disappoint![/caption]

Enough babble. Time to talk about the food. *eyes twinkling* We got a set menu and had one of the best dinner meals EVERRR.
1/ Malunggay and Mango Ice Cream

Ok, so I started out with dessert. Heehee. Shows my lurve for it. Do check out the malunggay ice cream when you're in Bohol. It might be an acquired taste but I find that it's refreshing to the palate and complements well the restaurant's tasty dishes. The pairing with mango ice cream is just as nice as well, balancing the sort of 'leafy' taste of it.
2/ Organic Garden Salad with Honey Mustard Sauce

First of all, I'm not a fan of vegetables. I do eat my share of greens but I have a daily tolerance limit for it. Hehe. :P My friends who are certified salad lovers give their thumbs up to this salad and say that the veggies used are indeed very fresh. For my part, I loved the honey mustard sauce - just the right mix of sweet and sour. :)
3/ Squash Bread with Homemade Pesto and Honey Spread

Not a bread lover here but this squash bread got my attention. I thought that it would be rough and hard like wheat bread but boy, was I wrong. It's super soft and smooth to the tastebuds. The pesto and honey spreads were nice as well, a perfect complement to the bread.
4/ Cab-cab with Pesto and Green Tomato

TOTALLY fell in love with this! Cabcab is made from cassava and has just the right amount of crispiness. Alone, it doesn't really taste anything but top it with pesto and green tomato and you have a flavorful appetizer. A bonus for me is that the cabcab doesn't crumble when you top it with the tomato (which can be a little wet).
5/ Honeyglazed Chicken

Being the chicken lover that I am, I instantly gravitated to this dish and loved the sweet taste to it. What I like about its sweetness is that it's the kind that does not leave one 'umay'. The chicken was tender and cooked just right. A friend of mine who cooks well commented that it could still be improved by adding honey bourbon to it. Mmmmm, I sure would love to have a taste of that. :)
6/ Chicken Dumpling Soup

Two thumbs up for this soup that's not very oily and with just the right amount of chicken flavor. As we say in Filipino, tamang timpla. It has vegetables along with the dumplings making this a truly healthy dish.

7/ Seafood Lasagna

I'm not a big fan of the lasagna but it's not entirely bad either. The lasagna is packed and despite the seafood tag, there's no 'malansa' taste to it that's usual in seafood dishes.
8/ Grilled Blue Marlin

I love this dish as well except that it's best eaten upon serving. Guys, don't let this get cold because the fish meat loses its softness. :|

Whew! What a long post.  And this concludes the Curious Cat's 3-part series on Bohol.

The verdict? Very much enjoyed it! And looking forward to going back and visiting other places. :)

Til the next adventure of the Curious Cat. Meow!

XOXO, Curious Cat
